History

Puwakpitiya Children’s Home for the mentally retarded was started on 31.07.2007 as a sub-branch of the ‘Navodaya’ project of the Department of Social Services. It received full patronage from the government headed by Hon. Chandrika Kumaratunga. A land which is nearly 17 acres in extent was donated for the construction of the Children’s Home by the late Jayaweera Arachchilage Louis Sinno, a resident of Warapalana, Udathuththiripitiya, Gampaha. Subsequently the institute was renamed as Jayaviru Institute in his memory.

Route

It is located in North Ambalamwatta three and a half kilometers down Hewainna Road which is to the south from Puwakpitiya town close to Awissawella along the Colombo-Awissawella Highlevel Road.
